A very substantial Georgian duplex pocket watch made by Grimalde & Johnson housed in a solid 18ct gold hunter case by Louis Comtesse, measuring 56.4mm in diameter and weighing a staggering 186.8g gross.
Condition:Dial - white enamel signed 'Grimalde & Johnson, Strand, 431' with gold spade hands, black Roman numerals and large sub. seconds dial. In - excellent condition having no hairlines, chips or discolouration. The glass is also in excellent condition.Case - very heavy dome back made by Louis Comtesse and hall marked for London, 1809 bearing the movement number '5303' with the front cover hinged at the 9 o'clock position and the pendant at 12 o'clock. As you would expect from this case maker, the quality is superb and the condition is excellent all round having no dings or scratching of note. All covers open and close as they should and the hinges are perfect.Movement - floral engraved gilt plate signed 'Grimalde & Johnson, No. 431 Strand, London, 5303' with Duplex escapement, steel 3 arm balance, engraved balance cock and diamond end stone with blued steel screws. In excellent condition and good working order
